Hi all! Im new to Singapore and I would like to know if anyone can recommend a good/great tropical aquarium shop here in Singapore? I am used to huge shops in OZ with everything I need all in one place (plants, fish, chemicals, test kits...) saves all that time on and off buses

    G'day mate?

I suppose Serangoon North Avenue 2 would have a cluster of shops that you can find practically everything you need from tanks to tubifex worms.

Alternatively, Clementi Ave 2 [block 328] has 3 shops clustered together with a very good selection and one of them opens 24 hours.

Check back with the forum if you need help on where to find anything or advice of any sort.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

if you are into planted tanks and looking for plants, you can try either NA or the shop beside NA (Nature Aquarium) located at balestier nearest mrt is NOvena mrt. NA has good and well priced equipment esp for co2 set systems and filter go and check it out. If you want plants, the shop beside it has loads of plants for sale.

    Hi Sharyn,

Brand new Co2 sets starts at S$108 for the taiwanese brands and goes up ALL the way from there. Used sets can be purchased from S$60, depending on capacity.

Nature Aquarium at Balastier road is a good place to get your planted tank gear sorted out. Good prices and good service in my experience so far and I'm sure there are others who will testify to that.

    Cheers,

Thanks heaps everyone! I don't feel so fish lost here now! I have a few things to do tomorrow and have the basics, substrate etc. Tank arrives on Wednesday, going on holidays on Friday, it will give my tank time to settle before adding anything! When I return I will definately go and have a look at the shop suggestions!
    Cheers,
    Sharyn

If you are referring to "Wu Hu", it is relocating back to Tiong Bahru which will only open in Nov.

You know what the idea shop will be for me?

Easily located, air-conditioned, staff members are hobbyists by themselves, there's a great selection of wood and plants, equipment is easily available, and prices are cheap.

Gratiola was almost all of them.

    It will be called
    Ben Aquarium : 71 Seng Poh Road #01-39 Tel - 62270935
(near the previous tiong bahru food centre, along the 7- eleven and POSB ATM stretch of shops)

Shop will open in early Nov but don't know the exact date cos they are not sure when the renovation will complete. I really can't wait to go there Hopefully the shop will be big enough to carry a wide variety of fishes and accessories so that i don't need to go to another place to get my accessories.

Wow... That's quite contradicting... Air-conditioned will usually mean high prices while great selection can bring down prices... But to store grest selection of equipment and have equipment easily available as well as great selection of plants etc, the shop would need a big place... and that will bring up prices to air-con it...

That sounds like C328 if it is air-conditioned...

But the location of any shop is very debatable... What is one's food could be the other's poison...

    My personal opinon about C328.

Initially, my thoughts are that this must be the most disorganised shop I have ever seen. It is ridiculous that I have to hunt the staff down to pay them. The overcrowded tanks looks a diaster waiting to happen.

However, having move to Clementi for a while and frequent the shop on a regular basis. There seems to be an order for their placement of products. Prices are definitely attractive. And if you are particular and willing to pay more, the shop will order the more expensive items for you, including livestock (but in a whole packet). Just ask, or better yet, print a copy of the item you are looking for to pass it to them. I'm surprised that they can even get Juwel parts.

Whilst the shop does not have air conditioning, the great thing about it is the coffee shop next to it. Very often, I bump into friends and fellow forumers and we adjourn to the coffee shop for a cold drink, chat and later pop back into the shop again together. Naturally, the claypot rice and the lor mee is also an added attraction.

Lastly, no pressure to buy anything, no hard sell. Just browse till you are happy and if you don't buy anything, the folks are fine with it.

    Cheers,
