Any pic to show the "red brick stones"? I haven't an idea how these stones looks, you can always do an acid/vinegar test to see if it will rise pH....As far as I know, bricks are made from clay which is rich in iron content.

you referring to those construction brick? Juz try dropping some vinegar on it to see whether got any reaction![]()
If you are refering to the clay based red brick, then it's fine. Some fishkeepers use them for their apisto and plecos too.
But for aquascaping, it's going to be challenging to make those big red blocks into something visually pleasing. We'll be curious to see what you have in mind. Do show us a picture when you have the opportunity.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
maybe u can knock the brick into pieces so that it have different shapes.
The sharp edges resulting from this exercise may not be too fauna friendly, especially to the cleaning crew.Originally Posted by hirowen

yup i agree with you. it will also be too tedious to file the sharp edges. but if really want to try out, try picking those without any sharp edges one.Originally Posted by benny

BTW - why not also consider those rocks found at constructions or road laying time etc... some are quite natural looking.

yeap..try look around in construction site and u may find some surprise there. i once pick up more than 20kg of granite stone home from a construction site. Even now when i m walking outdoor i will keep an eye on the grass and floor to see whether there is nice decorative stone around, hey this can save alot of money u know!![]()
hm... i do hope the workers don't need that granite stone... after all, the materials do belong to the construction company and it isn't good to just pick them up and bring home..Originally Posted by hirowen
Ya, if the company wants to ka jiao U for taking even their disposed materials, think they hv the right, hehe. I am from one of these place.Originally Posted by avant

Ooppss...wrong confession, Hirowen !![]()
Yeah I meant the red brick stone used for construction. Because I think it's no need to use a natural & beautiful looking of stones if we want to cover all its surface with moss / riccia... Besides, maybe the clay based brick stones (that construction brick stones basicly made from clay, right?) got something useful for plants, like Fei Miao said that they're rich in iron...
About the sharp edges, that bricks are not so hard, we can just scrub / rub them to another hard material.
We can also try to shape them...
Hmm, vinegar test... How should I do it...?![]()
Haha. Just make sure u dont bao to (hokkien) me can liao. Anyway, of cuz i didint picked from the construction site, is outside of the construction site. along the road side 1. haha!Originally Posted by plumboy21
