There is a new water pump in development for aquarium use. This new pump will be used in the tank as a normal water pump but there won't be any wires touching the water as a normal water pump has. It is made in 2 part, the motor and wire is being located outside the tank while the propeller part is actually inside the tank. For more info, please read the link-

I hope it will arrive in SG. I would want to own it.

The flow is way too torrent for a planted tank imo. A big minus is exposing the "giant" impeller in the tank. Imagine a shrimp or fish which is stupid being "chopped" into pieces.

Nifty idea though. And I assume a case will be easy to impliment. Though I really wish someone would make a pump that couldnt mash up/kill whatever got sucked into it... I lost quite a few fry to pumps

Er, the 'giant' impeller will be covered. Just that in the pics and video is it left bare to show how it work/spin. There is a controller that comes with it to control the speed of the impeller. It has a backup battery in the event that if there is a power failure, the pump will continue to operate. Main advantage is that no electrical wire will be placed in the tank and that could lessen the occurence of electricity leaking into the tank water. If for some reason the motor is disconnected while in operation, it's built in sensor will cut off the power.
