I would definitely opt for a 2213 for a 2' tank. Generates good circulation and enables the use of an external reactor for CO2 injection.
issit worthed getting an external canister filter for a 2ft tank?
my overhead filter is creating lotsa dark corners in my tank...
wonder if i should can my filter to an external one...
if yes, are there any recommendations from you guys?

Hanging filter is one of the choices, save place and less disturbance, and cheaper.![]()
Yep. A Eheim Liberty 100 or 150 model can probably be used.
For external models, can try Eheim 2222 or 2213.

wun a hanging filter be generating too much disturbances on the water surface?
also my tank has the black rim thingy ard it, not sure if the hanging filter will fit...
If you are using a 5-Plan type tank, then the Liberty 100 and 150 have no problem fitting over the rim. But as you mentioned, surface disturbance will decrease CO2 conc. in your aquarium.Originally Posted by valice
the flow rate can be adjusted to avoid too much water surface disturbance. Of cuz it is cheaper than canister filter. Canister filter is the better choice, if u got more cash to spend.Originally Posted by valice

A 2222 will serve you for a real long time, i've both liberty 100-150 before , used and tested. It's still best if you can use an external canister i've tried using a 2222 on a 2 ft kind of strong but it's worth it.
If you want to use hang on, ehiem overhanging filter do not have the power IMO.

how much will a 2222 put me pocket back?
when u say kind of strong, meaning that there is alot of flow in the tank? so guess it will be sort of a whirlpool in the tank for those guys?
It's strong but it's not so strong till it creates a typhoon. I'm not sure about the price for a 2222 now. Maybe 180? maybe some more up to date people can tell how much does it cost.
Just use more plants/driftwood to break the flow from the outlet.
Cheers!

For Eheim 2222, can also buy used ones for < $100 depending on age and condition.
For new units, call up Nature Aquarium, PetMart or Clementi 328 for best quotes.

If the external filter's flow is too strong, you can control the flow by partially closing the valve of the filter outlet. It shouldn't harm your filter. Just don't restrict the flow on the inlet side.
The smallest Eheim Ecco will do. Some people complain the handle on the Ecco series breaks easily, but I think it's due to mishandling (brute force and failure to read the instructions). That filter has some safety locking mechanisms that won't let the filter be open as long as the inlet/outlet valves are not closed, or something along those lines. I've two for years and they are serving me fine.
If yu think you might upgrade to a slightly larger tank later, getting a over-sized filter is a good idea if the cost isn't a factor. Then you don't have to re-invest in another filter. (Of course a filter meant for a 6ft tank, is way too over-sized for a 2ft tank)
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
The Eheim Classic 2213 will work nicely on a 2ft tank. It's about $80 brand new from Nature Aquarium(pretty good price IMO). If you add the double tap valves... It might bring it up to about $100(still a pretty good price IMO).
