If you set a chiller temp to 25 degrees, it won't stay at 25 degrees forever. The chiller will let the temp rise by about 2 degrees and when it reach 2 degrees higher than the programme temp, the chiller will start it's operation to cool the water to 25 degrees. Once it reaches back to 25 degrees, the chiller will automatically switch off.

A chiller might cost anywhere from a few hundred bucks to a few thousand dollars. The cheapest that I am aware of is by the brand Resun, made in China.

Also, when buying a chiller, you need an additional pump to drive the water into the chiller unit. You can use a canister filter as a water pump to pump water into the chiller.

    IMO,

Tank size up to 2.5 ft use fan
Tank size from 3.5 ft use chiller

Temperature can be important. Plants do better in cooler temp water esp. moss!

In my plan to set up a 4' tank, I plan to spend $$ on better lights and presurrised CO2 system. As such, do not have the budget for a quality chiller. If the day temp is 28-30 deg, what will be the common plants I should avoid? Tks
