anyone knows these pencilfishes?

Any pencilfish maniacs here can help me with these?

apologise for the lousy pix, uncooperative buggers and some fins also not yet healed.

First two pix should be same species, but is it possible they are a pair? size about 5cm.

and then this guy, looks some what similar but smaller at 3cm. think this is a separate species.

Wa Choy.. cant guess like that leh...need to see head shape leh i think.

At first i thought it was N. harrisoni but no lah..the shape looks wrong..to short...haha

My best guess would be a discoloured N. digrammus or a N. nitidus... the latter would be more doubtful...but if it is must tell me where you get..

You need heavy diffusion to avoid the hot spots.

benny, buggers are not cooperative, they hide at the back of the tank where I have a problem reaching them with lighting (photo tank is too deep, 1 ft). just want to grab some pix in case they jump or what, before they heal up their fins.

eh, already showing profile ah, not close up enough har?

someone suggested N. bifasciatus. got them from CS lah.

Heok Hui suggested N. digrammus (all three) as N. bifasciatus has no adipose fin. now must go take pix of the other super small ones.

Yup.. bifasucatus also the body looks way different. so my guess not bad lah..

EH.. got your pm.. i can pass you the fishes since i dont know what to do with them and want to replace them with Puntius gerius..

i think got about 4 species..

Too bad these pencil fishes not N. nitidus..

so nice that one...

Ranma, I think I mentioned this before but nitidus I spotted only a single specimen once at Gan's FF. It was a contaminant with some tetras. Never took it.

These pencils have been at CS for almost half a year already and nobody noticed them. I knew they were different but I've never positively known their ID. I dislike pencils since I've had problems with them in the past, especially with eques and beckfordi. But seeing how small these fellas are, I might get a few.. just to try out.

stormhawki, as you may know Peter Cottle stated that these are N. marilynae and he has never seen N. digrammus ever.

There is also a tank of "rocket" pencils (there should be two species in there).

That nitidus from Gan ended up in MrTree's tank I believe.

Well if Pete says so and CS uncle mentioned something like marilynae right? Then marilynae it is.

I know about the mixed up rocket tank. Nannostomus unifasciatus with eques. Both species banging up each other in the tank. Luckily there's a good number in the tank otherwise I bet the fights might be fatal.

I had a feeling the nitidus would be with Tree. I was with Benny when I saw it and somebody took it anyway. Never bothered to find out since I'm not a characin nut.

i saw them actually..but it was like a really quick glance and since then i've always thought they were bifaciatus... way to over look things..

Eh.. did you see that on another thread.. someone bought Ladigesia roloffi today!!!!
