    Hi,

I kept 2 pairs over 2 different period. Now, I think I have a trio which I recently acquired from Gan's Fish Farm, but yorky thinks otherwise. Seems to be a rather fuss free fish, but I don't breed them, so perhaps that's why they were relatively easy to keep. However, one of the male actually kill the female, I suppose due to a lack of sufficient hiding place.

Apparently this fish is also called Apistogramma sp. Abacaxis as it's not be scientifically named yet. Interesting.

I know for a fact that Mervin has successfully bred this species. Perhaps you can check with him.

I loved the dark colored mouth and the orangy coloration of this species. Something different.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

It's bad we can't enjoy the beauty of this little fishes easily... Wonderful fish...yes the throat is something different like women with thick lipsticks on. Its colouration intensify as they flare..

    I'm quite out-dated on apisto...
    Cheers!

The interesting part is that not every fries will come out with the same quality as the parent....esp. on the orange-red coloration at the tail....
For my case, only 40% got this coloration.

Have bred them...but F1 coloration is rather bad. Male to Female ratio also rather low. Left with Females only.

Extensive line breeding will cause the colours to be wash out . Either get good stocks or breed back to the parents.
    Cheers!

For a more balanced sex ratio, keep temperature around 26-27C..
This is what the Apisto bible says.. its scientifically proven.
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!

A bit hard to achieve without a chiller isn't it? Lots of apisto breeders don't seem to use one. What's their secret?

    What secret?
Don't think there's any secret.. really have to keep it cool in our climate.
Research has shown the relationship of temperature on sex ratio for Apistos.
