That's the dwarf indian puffer fish. Grows up to a max size of 3 cm only. They are like little helicopters in the tank. Very fun to watch.

    Cheers.

thanks for the name. you are right about the cure to watch. was staring at them last night and this early morning.

after your advice about their potential nastiness to nip at fins i promptly fed them some live tubifex. all illusions of cute vanished when i saw them take a bite! their mouths zapped out like lightening and took a BIG chomp of tubifex.

Any idea if there is still CO2 system with solenoid available at his place? I am helping a friend to look for it.

    Cheers!

kadios, no idea cos I think most of the stuff are already gone. He still has those yeast-based CO2 systems for sales, one type from JBL, the other from Dennerle Plus an assortment of stuff.

Come to think of it, I'll really miss the shop when its gone. Its the last aquarium shop in the Bukit Timah area. The one at Bukit Timah Plaza already gone.

Bigger problem.. where to find tubifex as fresh as his..
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable
    Back to Killies... slowly.

Hmm.. my area here has an LFS that does sell tubifex.. but its not fresh and almost always brown by the time I get them.

Looks like I have to find an alternative source.. SOON!

Used to frequent CS on avg once a mth, uncle very knowledgable able curing diseases , got some pointers from him, and bought lots of medicine/addictives, from him.
Still remember drooling over the ATF, when i first knew of this shop, but the price was wayover my budget, bcos that fish was quite big.
So next time to get oddballs, only CF left, sign...

    Just an after note.

While we're discussing the closure of yet another LFS, perhaps it is appropriate to think about why it has happened?

Granted that these days, fewer and fewer people are getting into the hobby, I am sure this is not the only reason that caused LFS to find business unprofitable and hence had no choice but to fold up.

We as hobbists also have to help.

Everytime we go to a farm to purchase livestock/plants etc, we're depriving the LFS of the opportunity to make a sale. People might say, fish farm cheaper mah... which is true! But if your LFS owner does his job and provide you with added value, for example by ensuring that his fishes are properly quarantined, then paying more is worth while isn't it?

Anyway it's simple economics, if the consumers are bypassing the retailers and going straight to the distributors/manufacturers, then it's natural that pretty soon, all the retailers will close shop.

Some retailers (LFS) then try to salvage the situation, they either
    1. go into niche market, by importing wild caught or rare fishes
    2. start selling at a lower margin

We as consumers will of course be very happy, we can buy cheap equipment, fishes, plants, we can have easy access to rare fishes. But the LFS are taking greater risks, shipment of fishes may be easily wiped out, operating at lower margin means lesser cash in hand for emergency, some owners of LFS may find themselves operating as such low margin that it ceases to make sense to continue to remain operational (remember Darwin Aquarium at Bedok last time?)

So each time you travel to fish farms or some LFS renowed for selling their stuff cheaply, remember, you're hurting your very own LFS, and no one can help them except us.

    This is just my opinion.

    cheers

what happened to CS? very sad that yet another lfs has shut down...yea, good analysis of the direct sales of fish farms affecting lfs.

btw, please support this lfs in bishan st 21 formerly from Tiong Bahru beside Ben's shop. His name is Ah Heng. This shop is my life saver every time I run out of parts and etc.

Anyone has any idea of the location of Ben's shop or has he reopened? I went down a month ago to his supposed new location but could not find it. Help welcomed!

    Cheers!
