Just bought the Atman H.O.T. filter few days back.
Read somewhere that the output from the filter (water out from outlet and splash onto the surface) will result in loss of CO2; thus causing an inefficiency in the CO2 distribution.

My qn is, I had rised my water level to be above the output, thus no splashing is caused, but there's still movement at the surface (ripples).

Is there still any loss of CO2 ? And if so, usually how much CO2 do you lose when you use a H.O.T. filter ?

hmmm...indeed...high surface turbulence will result in lost of co2, as for how much co2 lost is very subjective....u can try and measure the co2 level using kh- ph test with/ without filter on...maybe can share with us the results....lol....

i'm ADDicted to this wonderful hobby

i was just thinking, maybe other users of H.O.T. filters can share their xp too.
as in, whether their plants still grow as nice as b4 they even use H.O.T.

i used a piece of aluminium foil to direct the water down into the water surface, thus providing some surface movement and not too much splashing... you might wanna try...

Slight surface movement is alright. Try to rised the water level to the output tip to prevent splashing, and adjust to the minimal output.

    Valice,
Can elaborate more about how u using aluminium foil?

As mentioned, some movement of the surface water is good since it adds O2 at night and degas excess CO2 if you overdo it (make sure you shut the CO2 at night.) but not a lot though (waste a lot of CO2).

it is very low-tech method. u take a piece of aluminium foil and fold it into a rectangular shape. It should be thick enuff so that you can manipulate the angle of the "slide". Tuck the foil under the outlet of HOT and let the other end reach the water surface. Then you adjust the angle of the tilt of the foil till you achieve ur desired surface agitation.

hmmm, not sure if you all understand wat i am trying to describe... hee...
