Okay scratch the earlier message. Didn't read your earlier post on the 2ft viva series. This must be your common greenback male.

Cute! hehe
Hopefully u can get some females and breed them
Yeah, hopefully to get some sexy females in there to "spice" it all up, but as for now it's mainly like a bachelor's gathering party.Originally Posted by dkk08
And this is where they're rocking in right now...
Equipped with mainly ferns and jungle moss and a single bromeliad to give a dash of colour to all that greens.
No filtration in this setup, mainly java moss having to clear all those nitrates.

Phillipe.
Ooo... Simple and nice... I am setting up a new tank for the frog and newts that I have... This is inspiring... Phillipe, come help me ah...

Beautiful set-up for the frogs, try breeding if you have pairs there
Wild Ginger, I am amazed at your creativity!
Can you advise me what I need to do a setup like this?
As in, what are the plants you used?
My apologies as I am a hopeless vivarium beginner!

I replying on behalf of Philippe to the best I can since he's away... btw, this is a 2ft tank with side bracing turned on the side, the brace acts as a front for the water area, by modifying the front with prespex/glass, you get a deeper water front. a cover/door for the front can be customise with clear prespex and gluing hingles.
Hard scape-
basically what's need for this set-up are nice wood stump/ s, this doesn't have to be driftwood and can be source from the wild if you are game, pebbles are used here for the water area.
Flora-
the plants from when I see are basically ferns and moss species, basically plants that do well in shades and love high humility and a bomelia (available from plant nurseries and at occasionally at Ikea plant section), the ferns such as Boston, Finger ferns can be found in the wild or purchase from nurseries. You can tied the plants to spaghum moss for the roots to establish and these in turn to the wood with threads and cable tie. Most moss will do, but i find X'mas moss looks good because of the shape of the fronds, you can either tie or drap in on the wood.
Fauna-
Amphibians(Please note certain amphibians are prohibited as pet stated by AVA)In this case frogs, but I keep fish such as a few wild guppies, boraras, wild bettas.
Equipments-
I do not see a pump here, but you can incorporates a power-head to have some water movement, or water falls, a false back with black textured polyfoam can be glue with black silicone to hide the equipments. As for lights, if I'm not wrong it's a 24watts PL(perhaps Thomas can help confirm this)
Maintainence-
Not much really, mist it to keep the environment moist, if the set-up is in a air con environment, better , water - change, my ; occassionally if i see the glass from have too much algae( it's gets the sun part of the day)
It's really up to your creativity to make it works hope this helps

...I love rubies too ...
Ken
I understood nearly all thank you.
What about only using the solar light? the tank is placed near a window, is that possible?
Must these plants be fertilized? from where they draw nutrients?
