wat kinda plants? for stemmed plants, its a simple snap throw or replant.. the way to more bushier look is thru constant trimiming.. recommend u go to Nature.. and get one issue of Amano's aquajournal.. there is a article in one of them regarding trimming

what i do for stem plants
1. the right way, cut the stem, remove/cut down the bottom part, and replant the top
2. the lazy way, cut the stem, let it grow new shoots <- the plant will get very bushy

Karen Randell's article is very detailed and helpful... I was making quite a mess before reading her article.

There is another LFS which I learned a lot... PE-WE Alley at Joo Chiat Place. I will driving pass it one day and saw the most beautiful planted tanks I have ever seen in any LFS in Singapore. I can't help it but to make one big round to go back there.

When I asked about the trimming the plants, the owner brought me to one of his tanks to another, pulled out his plants and trimmed the different types of plants right before me.[:0]

I will vote it to be the best planted tank LFS in Singapore!!

Guys, take bus no.33 from Bedok interchange. Alight after u see another lfs call Mr Fish Aquaristik. This lfs is located on the right side. The bus will stop exactly infront of PE-We lfs.

To propagate most stem plants, simply take cuttings and insert them in the substrate. They will quickly develop roots and you are in business. There are some stem plants that don’t branch well until they can actually lay across the surface of the water. Rotala macrandra is a good example of a plant with this growth pattern. You will be able to propagate the plant much more quickly if you allow this habit and trim stems intermittently after they have spread across the surface.

it means that when the stems reach the surface the growing tip will naturally assume a horizontal growth positions (since they can't grow right up through the water). That's when they use the available light to develop new roots and side shoots.

yah, but it makes no sense. Why the need to spread horizontal. With rotala macranda, I think i'll end up with rotting bottoms.

hi guys,

I had tried peeling off the leaves and then plant the stems into the substrate. But apparanently after a few days, no shoots or roots grow from the stem. Instead, the stem started to rot. Why is that so?

Do we need strong lights to shine on the plants?
