i was just wondering, are there any wild fish being collected,
the reason i ask this question is , a good friend of mine breeds them like guppy's, but of late he's been have trouble,ie eggs are infertile or the fish will not breed at all,
his stock fish are all farm bred and he thinks thats where the trouble is.
so if anyone can tell me if they are getting wild fish, i can relay this to my mate
    thanks , mick

It's Trigonostigma heteromorpha now if you're talking about the Harlequin =x

I think the Harlequin is farm-bred, while it's cousins (T.espei and such) are wild-caught. Not sure.

    terence, its heterOmorpha.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

You friend might be inbreeding them. Just make sure they aren't from the same parents and buy stock from different farms occasionally.

these are recently bought fish, he has bred them a couple of times with good results, but now he's having trouble, maybe its because the farm bred stocks are not getting enough new blood lines?.
as ive said this man has bred many different hard to do species, two examples are the coral pencils & purple pencils. which is no mean feat,
plus the farm bred harlequins that we are getting are very poor in size and colouration.

Sorry mick, I just realised you're not from singapore. T. heteromoprha are native to SEA. So i doubt you'll be able to find them in england(or wherever you're from, can't recognise the flag) And yes, I believe it's very possible that the farms are selling inbred stock to prevent homebreeders(me!) from becoming a problem. I'd suggest importing a few wild caught fish to get a good mix of genes. And no, unfortunately i don't export
