    Hi,

Is it difficult to grow fissidens?

    What are the parameters needed?

I assume you are talking about fissidens fontanus. If so, here are the parameters in the tank in which I have fissidens fontanus:

    2 feet tank
    Filter: Eheim 2026
Lighting: 2X36 PL lights for 8 hours a day
Carbon dioxide: 1 bubble per second, with CO2 reactor for 8 hours a day (synchronised with lighting hours)
    pH: 6.5

I do not have a chiller in my tank if that is what you are asking and I stay in Singapore. Sorry, I do not have the temperature of the tank. I would say that 27C is ok.

A picture of the tank is available on the following link (it is the last one):

The fissidens is growing quite well in my tank. My tank specs is as follow:

    Dimension: 30cm x 30cm x 30cm
    Light: 2 x 9W PL
    CO2: none
    Temperature: 26-28°C

Seems to be quite easy to grow.

my fissiden grows in my betta tank without co2 ,light (a bit of sun light but not direct) and no chiller (of course!). so, you can imagine it's really easy to grow.
There will be no more deaths after the holocaust. Of course, having 3 fishes in my 400L tank helps.

i suppose as long as you maintain the water cool, no worries for growing fissiden.

Is it a fast growing plant in a liquid fert dosing and CO2 enriched tank?

It's faster and denser growing in one that's dosed and co2 enriched. Otherwise, it's a really slow grower.

It's the plant in the front left hand corner growing on the rock. Tank is non-co2 enriched or fertilized. Just gets 18W of light on a daily basis.

Agree with all. Mine is placed in a shaded area, 2ft deep at the bottom and they seem to be able to grow and creep fill up the bare patches .

If they are able to grow well and fast, sooner its market price will plunge and more hobbyists will have a chance to get a hand at it

Growing fissidens may not be too difficult, but to grow them nice and healthy without algae may need some luck and skill.

So far, my own experiments shows they need clean water and low temperature like around 25C degree. Bioload should keep to minimum.

They look short and tiny... Which is better - tie it with fishing strings, treads or with a green netting over it to prevent it from floating up?

I never tried using netting. Fishing lines are too difficult to handle.

I tied them to the wood by sewing thread. Black thread is quite inconspicuous. The thread will be hidden once the fissidens grow over it.

if you really want a fuss free solution, i guess using the netting method would be the best. Using the fishing line, you will got to ensure you got almost all covered to ensure no float ups

totally agree with shihyong ,temp..must be cool around 25 degrees...dosing liquid fert.. co2 enriched...clean water..bioload minimum..then it will grow quite fast...as it applies to willow moss also...
