    Hi,

Was just wondering how do I lower my pH without suffocating my shrimps with CO2?

A few ways; you can use ADA soil, add commerically available blackwater, peat in filter or use kepatang leaves.

But will it make the water colour change yellow or anything? If I do a water change will it return back to original pH value?

ADA soil keeps the water clear, only thing is it'll disintegrate in tiny bits after some time.

If this is planted tank, what substrate are you using now?

Kemp, I've split your substrate question to another thread.

    ADA soil?
ADA soil refers to a type of substrate by Aqua Design Amano. If you go to any planted fish shop such as Nature Aquarium, they will show you..

So I have to buy and put a new layer of soil????
You need to remove everything and replace it with the new ADA soil. In other word, you need to tear down the tank. It usually happen once every 2 years. Because the substrates is usually "dead" after 2 years due to compact and no water flowing in it..

    Is there another way??
Another way is put a layer of base fertilizer such as JBL base fert. Then you add another layer on top of the base fert.

Bro, i have a base fert, then second layer on top i have a layer of black sand-like soil then follow by ADA soil on the top.
Currently, my PH is hovering around 9, then i did a 100% change, PH drop till 7.5 (i took a measurement straight after the WC).
Been a day liao, didn't take another of the PH measurement.
My friend who happened to got the ADA soil with me, also experiencing high PH in our tank. Wonder isit caused by the ADA soil?(heard ADA soil actually brings down the PH?) -> my cherries and CRS was also KIA most prob due to the relatively high PH

Just tested my water's PH, seems to be around ph 8-9 again.
Is there anyway that i can bring down the PH level?
    advise please..thanks

bubble some Co2 into the tank or do a water change every now and then.

I've already a diy co2 and another electrical co2 in my tank.
did about thrice WC for the past one week.
    Twice (20-30%) & once (100%)

Should i continue with some more WC? if yes...how much? 100% again? My last WC was 100% change

Why do you want to mess with the pH of the water as long as the critters are fine? Fishes and critters sold here are already adapt to the tap water conditions and you shouldn't need to mess around with it anymore.

CO2 is for plants...not for pH control.

Bro because my cherries are always dying whenever i introduce them to my tank. This only happen after i introduce the ADA soil..first time, it was a great massarce, then on 2 instance, i introduce a few shrimps into the water to test it out. All died too. Suspect it's got to do with my PH level

ADA aquasoil has NH3/NH4 with it and lowers the KH/GH as well. Heavy planting and focusing on taking care of the plants well would help remove all the NH3/NH4. Now, the KH and GH...you can add coral chips or baking soda+Seachem Equilibrium to raise those back since our tap is pretty low on both. Another issue is to add some surface current to the tank water. So so plant growth coupled with too little surface movement (low gas exchange..less O2 added from the atmosphere) will make a bad combo. Finally, adding CO2 to water which is poorly buffered (no KH or with low KH) can cause the pH to crash and kill off critters.

Look into those things mentioned and you should not have issues if you take care of them well.
