Nope, not a napoensis. This is an elegans-type but certainly not napoensis. Lacks the patterned head region. The elegans-type group is a headache to differentiate given the various species with similar patterns and also the C-numbers which may be new species or just geographic variants of known species. Either way, tentatively.. and also to make things easier, just call this Corydoras sp. cf. elegans, or just Corydoras sp.

if like i said it's a female, they very rare have a pattern on the head?
and i have'nt seen an elegans type with a black dorsal, and in the UK we see a lot of elegans eg wild and tank breds.

Black aeneus was sold recently here in Singapore.

From my experience, corydoras also turn black color when they are sick.

Where was the S$ 15 corydoras sold? That may give us an idea.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Oh...Haven't heard the term Coryfanatics for a long time. The original group of hobbyist was hanging around at www.arofanatics.com's freshwater section in a thread under that name. Subsequently, most of them went separate ways. Shame.

Anyway, nice corydoras! Love the way the debris is swept behind it, giving a sense of motion.

    Hi Mick,

The thing is, napoensis females also have the same patterning in the head region as the males, except that they lack the black blotch in the dorsal.

    C. elegans itself is a variable species with several geographic forms I think, and if I remember correctly, some have stripes and some have black blotches in the dorsal.

Even then, the group itself is a tad bit difficult to tell apart, unless you have specific information on their original source, or have obtained them from reputable breeders. Then there's the C-numbers, of which several do look close to this critter in Justikanz's pic.

So to put it simply, its not easy to thumb an ID down, just that this fella is probably one of the elegans type.
