Hello plant kings!! Plant Idiot has a question :

i will be doing a setup for arowana.

The plants i will use are Java fern, nana and also java moss. The lights i should be using are 2x36W PL and 2x30W pink FL (4x2x2 tank)

I chose these plants coz i dont want to have fertiliser layer in this tank and also i will be using pea gravel (at least 3mm) and i want to minimise lighting also.
    Of coz won't have CO2.

    Can work ?

    Hi LSZ

Hairgrass wld need lotsa light (>3w per G i believe) & CO2 as well...otherwise, it'd rot. An alternative foreground plant u might wanna try wld be echinodorus tennellus. Growth of course will be very slow.

yup, suggest u go for all echinodorus, cryptos, anubias, fern.. but i prefer all echinodorus..

HG like what nizz point out require more light and c02...

lsz, what u oso need to consider is yr algae eaters, like what i suggest to vinz, setup yr planted tank first b4 introducing the fish... at least at this point, the plants r adapted and growing in yr tank and the foreground plants can give cover to yr algae eaters

Guys, have u noticed that some of the aro tanks in PetSafari especially the Violet Fusion has an orange ball the size of a ping pong ball floating in the tank. I speculate that when the light of the tanks is switch on, the light rays hitting the balls will reflect and project an orange/reddish tinge that will reflect or bring out or heighten the colors of the aros especially the Violet Fusion. Or maybe I'm wrong but what's the ball doing in the tank?

BFG, the bright coloured ping pong ball is to make the aro look up instead of down. If the aro keeps looking down, it eventually develop something call drop eye, where its eye hangs downwards.

Simon, I think the fishes in Pet Safari Planted tank are SAEs.

Hmmm... seems like more ppl are going for planted aro tanks... []

Could be the fishes 'dissappear' and are replaced. []

I wonder whether a farlowella can survive in a aro tank?
