I'm using Ehiem surface skimmer and want to use a sponge filter. I have gone through LFS but noticed that the sponge filters dun seem to be made for the surface skimmer coz the hole is too small. New to this so dunno how to acually use a sponge filter. Anybody can tell me if I can use those normal sponge filters from LFS? If so, can also tell me how to attach it to the surface skimmer? Thanks a million!

Hello Come Bash You (what a strange name...),

If you are using a sponge filter driven by air pump, then there's no need for a surface skimmer. The air bubbles breaking on the surface will ensure there is virtually no scum on the surface.

Traditionally surface skimmer performs better with external canister filters and occasionally with some internal filters with the right pipe size for their inlet.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Eh.... I'm not using any air pump... Got a planted tank, so that's y I need to use the skimmer... But wanna try to breed some shrimps, so I think the sponge filter is needed to replace the normal filter inlet canister. Dun want the shrimplets to get sucked into the filter. I'm using an external filter.
