Broz, need u guys to help me figure this paragraph out on a typical Seachem Nitrogen bottle, especially the bold part.

"To target a specific nitrogen increase, dose according to the following formula: 0.25vn=m, where v= volume of tank in gallons*, n=desired nitrogen increase (if using a “nitrate equivalent” value for “n” then use a factor of 0.05 instead of 0.25 in the formula) and m=volume of product to use in mL. For example to raise 20 gallons* by 0.20 mg/L nitrogen you would use: 0.25*20*0.20=1 mL."

If I wan to achieve a 10ppm of nitrate at each dose, which formula should I use? 0.25 or 0.05? And if I use this formula, 0.25*15*10, I need to dose 37.5 ml! Issn't that hell alot of fertilizer? I am assuming that 1ppm = 1mg/L (which Vinz mentioned in another thread).

And any idea what "nitrate equivalent" means up there?

    Thanx alot!

Ok, basically, it means do you want to raise:
    1. Nitrogen levels by n ppm, or
    2. Nitrate levels by n ppm.

For case 1 use factor 0.25. For case 2, use factor 0.05.

Nitrate equivalent simply means you want to use NO3 instead of N as a indicator to determine how much of the product you want to use.

So in your case you should be dosing 0.05*15*10 ml of Seachem Nitrogen to raise the equivalent of 10ppm of Nitrate.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    p.s. Don't assume 1ppm = 1mg/l. It IS a fact.

Also, get KNO3... it's cheaper in the long run.

thanx vinz... i really think it would be more economical to change to KNO3. Are those in a white container sold as Lushgro?

and wat about PO4? wat do u suggest i should replace my seachem phosphorus with?

Just get any product labelled KNO3 or potassium nitrate. For KH2PO4 it's potassium dihydrogen phosphate or potassium phosphate monobasic.

Other then the LushGro range available at planted LFS, you can try normal plant nurseries. They are used as fertilisers for ALL plants.
