Hi, I am setting up a 4 ft tank by end December. I intend to plant heavily but am not sure on the need to have floating plants to fight the "new tank" syndrome. Will floating plants help? What will be the appropriate types? I will be using 4 x 54watts T5s and pressurised CO2. Tks.

If you plant heavily enough, you need not have floating plants to combat new tank syndrome.

If you still want floating plants, I guess the usual varieties will do like Frogbits.

Agree with Terence on the fact that if you plant heavily in the first place, you dun need help from floating plants.

If you need, Frogbits or hornworts would be good and easy to remove later. Hornworts have the advantage of looking nice from the front glass of the tank.

If you need any and stay at the west, you can get some from me.

I think there's no need to floating plants if you

    1. plant heavily right from the start.
    2. start off with a shorter photoperiod, then gradually increase it over the next 2-3 weeks
    3. add liquid fert only after the 2nd week.

What add the floating plants then later have to throw them away/give them away.

    happy planting!
