Does leeching of base fert (in particular, JBL Aquabasis Plus) into the water really cause algae?

I'm asking this because when I set up my tank, I only had a thin layer of soil above the base fert and I'm sure I messed it up quite a bit, but frankly no algae has appeared for a week now.

Do a 50% water change after you have stirred up the bottom of the tank. This will neutralize the impact..

Something to read and ponder. The aquabasis does not have ammonia in it so it does not trigger an outbreak of algae as you have seen.
