I liked the change to my eyes when I used 8000K instead of 6500K... 6500K suddenly seemed too warm and orangy. I like 8000K!

The higher the Kelvin value, the brighter it looks to the human eye although they can be the same wattage... Plants will adapt to 6500-10000k lighting by itself...

The higher the Kelvin, the more the green spectrum, so the brighter, since our eyes are more in-tuned to the green... So depends on the personnal preference...

Actually, plants typically uses 5000K - 8000K region. However, do note that this is in color temperature thus dun really means much.

What we should be look at is the PAR. Plants uses the blue and orange/red wavelength for photosysthesis. See this graph that shows the Action Spectrum of a plant.

Almost all lights tube has a peek in the yellow region (550nm). This is because human eyes can see this region and this is the spectrum that will make a tube look bright athought plants hardly uses them.

I have posted some info on lights spectrum on my blog. http://fruddy.com/blog/post/Planted_...T5-High-Output

personally I find it too harsh white.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
