    Have not seen it yet.

    Jerome,

I recall seeing a 1.5 ft T5 light set in Hong Kong. However, I can't be sure if it's a High Output (HO) version.

For such a small tank, do you really need T5 when there are so many other options?

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

    Hi all,

    Pardon my ignorance
But what's the difference between T5s and normal PL or FL?
    Energy saving? Longer lasting?

    Thanks

I doubt there is any HO T5 that is smaller than 2ft.

    Heh Hey graeme!

Ok the reason why i'm asking is cos i've got compacts (PL) now and they don't do the job, i've got over 60w over my 1.5cube and i can't squeeze anymore over.

Th thing is, i don't seem to be getting alot of light outta it cos of the small space and volume.

If all you want is a lot of light and good penetration, T5 HO is the way to go. I bought 2 sets (see the link that I posted earlier) for my 3ft tank and was surprise over what the T5 HO can do as compared to my PL. I was using 4x36w PL + 1x55w PL previously. I intended to upgrade it to 4x39w T5 HO and was amazed that my plants bubbled within 5 to 10mins after installing the first set. It has been almost 2 weeks now and I still have not install the 2nd set worrying it is too bright for the plants. My glosso is bubbling like nobody's business.

Besides being a better tube then PL, the T5 reflector also plays a part. Try removing the reflectors and you will know the great difference. I need sun glass to look at it. Now I have a lot of space when doing maintenance and clearing dead leaves.

You can use PLL24W HO or PLL 18W HO maybe this might help you solve your problem. BTW what type of PL tube you use?

Standard Elbiru 24w run by eballast.
Somehow because of a lush thick stemmed plant bush (wanna be dutch)
it seems to limit the light to half way thru the tank. I'm wondering if T5s are all cut out to be and can punch thru where PLs can't?

I'm skeptical but willing to spend some dough to try so i can advice some of me mates when they enquire in future.

are NOs really such a far cry from HOs? (ok that sounded like a dirty question..) im wondering with a proper refection system, would NOs be enough?
Also am considering converting my lights into a pendant form, always liked that idea, however, seems that i cant even get enough depth how the heck does amano get depth with T5 pendants on a small tank?
