    Hi All,
This is my first query in this forum.
I am currently having only two types of mosses in my tank. One is the popular java moss and the other is supposed to be christmas moss (atleast that's what I was told.. I may be wrong). My problem is that I have only a handful of christmas moss and cannot risk any experiment with it much till they grow into some good mass. The only problem is that its very very slow growing compared to java.
    1. How can I accelerate the growth ?

I have spread it on a flat piece of rock.
2.Do spreading on wood is better or it doesn't matter at all ?

I am dosing my tank according to Tom Barr's estimative index along with pressurised CO2 fed through a reactor. Light intensity is high. Almost a watt per litre.

3.What is the dosing routine for you guys having a moss only tank ?

    Atanu,

I think you've already done all that is needed to get mosses to grow fast. By spreading them out, all the fronds are exposed to light. That's trick number one It does not matter if they are tied to driftwoods or rocks but the surfaces should be rough enough for the moss to cling on. Not all mosses cling but Java is one good clinger

As for fertilisation, mosses need very little of it.

If your Christmas is growing a lot slower than your Java, it could be that some critters in your tank are eating the new growth. What fish do you have in your tanks? Besides SAEs, Yamato shrimps eat mosses too.

    Re: Growing moss fast

Best way 8is to grow some emersed in a humid tank or box, place either on rocks are better on driftwood. Within a month or 2 you'll have more moss than ever.

    Hi All,
I have Rosy Barbs and Black Molly and platies to take care of hair algae and no other fishes in the aquarium. The barbs like to tear up through java ferns but they are not touching the christmass moss as all lie fully flat on the rock surface.

Will give a try with the emersed growth but I can't spare more than a single frond for this experiment

    Regards
    Atanu
