I am trying to get my difformis leaves to split right down to the bottom, but I can never get it to do so, except for the top. Does the lighting have to do with it? And what would be the ideal lighting?

I have tried 9W first for my 1 1/2 foot tank, then 18W, finally 11W. Intend to try for 15W. But through my experiment, 18W did not make my leaves split as much, in fact it slowed any growth, but at least I did not get melting at the bottom. My 11W seems to hold up my difformis well with good splitting at the top, but the leaves at the bottom remain looking like immersed.

i dont think you can get it to split right down the middle, continue with the 18 W lighting, that will keep any rotting from happening in the bottom area. For aesthetic value, what you can fdo is get some mid ground plants to cover that area like japonica or some DW

Extremely fast growing plants but beautiful as well. I guess regular trimmings is the only way to "make it split" at the middle but it is done artificially.

    Cheers!
