    Hi,

I just found out the sex of my dominant Apistogramma viejita "red" fries to be male. Can see the redness coming out already.

Anyone have fries of the same species also?. Maybe we can exchange/sell to avoid inbreeding.

    Hi,

Was wondering if it is easy to spawn your Apistogramma viejita? I am trying to spawn my pair too. But no luck.

Now trying to setup a new tank mainly for them

hmm should be easy..put them in a tank alone and they will breed but that is also given the rite water parameters etc...my fries are already F3 meaning parents are from biotope(F1) last time $120 per pair...got the fries and the fries now all full grown(F2)..left them in a comm tank and inbreeding happen and got fries(F3) which left about 4 with me..so now i dun want any inbreeding, then need to get a female somewhere.

r yours the viejita red neck or veijita red/super red?

    A. viejita are easy to spawn. However it is hard to get a compatible pair. The male will try to kill the female and vise versa unless they are bonded.

Hmm...i don't quite get the F1 from biotope issue...I'll rather classify my tank bred fish to be Fn+1 meaning that they can be of any generation..depending on the colouration and form etc will result the n Number. Could easily be F(7)+1 meaning your first fry output to be F8 . Meaning as the generation goes down the colouration gets wash out resulting in dull colours.

I don't think anybody talks about tank bred as F1 etc already since they're not from the wild.

After about F2 nobody will bother if it's F3 or what, will just see the colour and form .

Maybe you're trying to get to us if it's first spawn or what, guess it's the term used. But i think we all understand where you're coming from.

    Cheers on the spawn!
    Cheers!

Benetay, you just expressed my exact sentiments.
Its better to be specific about these definitions to avoid future confusion.
It's NOT "Chee lick", NOT "Chee Chee Licks"!!! Cichlids is pronounced as "Sick Lids"!!!!!

Whoa ..i didnt thought that by using (F1 label etc)will get pple confused...thought that it will simplify what im trying to say rather that i go about saying fries this fries that which i think will get pple confused.

But i guess most pple should understand what im trying to say.Anyway main question is have anyone got any fries to trade or sell?

When folks mentioned F1, means parents are wild.
    Otherwise, its just tank-bred F1.
    There is no further confusion.
As in your objective of looking for other VJ, you want to stop the inbreeding process - which is very admirable!

In that case, if your main question is looking for trade/sell, you might want to request the Mods to move this thread to Marketplace.
    Better luck there?

    Sorry guys,

I don't own a camera so I'm using my Sony Ericsson HP camera to take most of the pictures.

I don't have the parents already...male sold to one of the guy here while female died. The photo below is from last time. Sorry about the really bad quality. The fries im having problem getting a shot at them as they are always hiding inside the moss. Will try to take a picture when I manage to catch them out.

i think it's more of the memories that can be kept...apisto don't live forever so we can always remember them when they're gone.
    Cheers!

Yup quite true benetay. but with the sudden re-emergence of apisto interest among AQ forumers plus all these new shipment from different LFS and sources, its quite hard not to lay ur hands on all these beautiful specimens.cos u know u may not get them as easily as now,the next time.

Agree to a certain extend, but now i don't think it's a money issue it's more on availability, as long as you want to get it, overseas still have quite a number of LFS who deals with Apisto.
    Cheers!

Totally agree with you Bene. I was lucky to be able to get my prized pair due to a big favour from a buddy who got them in overseas
