There is no personal issue for me using the EM antibiotic, it's much more figuring out why it grew in the first place and blackout is a very effective tool that is free.

    Main things:

You need to clean, the filter, the gravel, along the gravel line(use a paint plastic scraper, these work great or a credit card etc_), if you have not vacuumed the gravel in over a year, fluff it up or vac it in 1/3 sections over 3 weeks vac-ing each week 1/3 of the area.

Clean most things, fluff up any dead spots etc, trim plants that might be on the surface etc, then do 50% or large water change+ KNO3 dosing etc the blackout or Antibio method.

3 Days later: add KNO3 after another large water change, and maintain the tank from then on.

If you see a little BGA, attack it and then dose more KNO3.

BGA along the gravel line is common, as long as it does not go further.
But I still bother it anyway with the paint scaper.
It'll grow best on the side nearest amibent window light etc.

You can tape the gravel below the water level and kill it that way also(blocks the light).

    Regards,
    Tom Barr
