My plant has sent out surface leaf, may I ask again how do I propagate it?
    Can anyone help?

Cut the leaf stalk from the bottom. Then wait for it to grow the roots.

    Re:

    Thanks Gerald,
But I don't wish to hang the entire length of the stalk hanging in the mid air (should be mid water)...I remember Mr Budak advice like cut the stalk a few cm below the surface leaf. How many cm ah?? 4-5cm correct?

Re: How to Propagate Banana Plant

Will the new plants propagated from the leaves have "bananas" too?

I cut two surface leaves and let it float but they just died off.

Check my question above, it must be cut with a certain length of stalk attached. Too short--died, Too long--'dinday'....anyway stil waiting for reply...hopefully Budak see this...he ever mentioned 'cut XX cm of the stalk from the leaf'

wait til the new leaf has opened up fully at the surface, then cut to leave a stem length of about 5-6 cm beneath and let it float. Use a sharp scissors to minimise cell damage and the chance of rot. It's best to let the new plant float for a while, as new bananas take quite a while to form.

I've been to a few places where these have been existing for 30,000years at least, bananas do grow slow, the leaves will grow fast though.
These are some of the cheapest plants here, maybe 50 cent ea.
It will grow with Utricularia, Mayaca etc in very soft acidic water(pH 4.7!), very rich organic substrates. There are about 6 species from this genus here in Florida.

Seeds are another way to grow these.

Quite a while<< how long does it take usually for the bananas to form? 2 weeks?

I have a banana plant for about 2 weeks now and its sending off a leaf to the surface.

    Cheers.

Seems that the banana plant is sending off surface leaves.
I want to keep it as a midground plant.
Should I just trim off the new leaves before they reach the surface? Will that encourage the leaves to grow more compact?

    Cheers
