    Hi,

Anyone has clue why the E.Tenellus and gu jing chow root turns brown ? I am using lapis sand, with base fert JBL aquaplus and also monster root spread at the front of the tank. My ET and moss was quite lush 2 mths ago. Some of moss leaves inner stem also show some brown color now.

Dose using EI method, CO2 with powerhead/spraybar , chiller, MH light .

    Thanks in advance.

How do yo know? do you pull them out?
    How deep is your substrate?
Did you pull other plants out and saw their roots were ok?

How do you know they turn brown in the first place when they are in the substrate? How old is the substrate? Perharps its time to vac the substrate after a year or so to remove the substantial buildup in mulm. Some mulm is good for the initial startup for the substrate but too much is bad after a while.

Hmm this is a tough one. Nothing out of ordinary in your tank at all?

The first sign when I saw my some of E.T leaves rot/melt. After pull out some of the E.T, I can see that the roots are also brown. Same thing happen to my gu jing chow. The ET rot show at various places, funny thing is those close the rot ET grows very healthy and lush. My front tank substrate is only about 2 inches as I want to create slope effect. The ET was growing fairly well last 2 months.

My substrate now is about 2 years already. I have insert quite a lot of root monster at the front side of the tank.

    Cheers

Then its about high time you pull up the plants and vac the substrate to remove the excess mulm buildup. A too reductive substrate is bad. Another thing is once a tank fills up pretty well, flow throughout certain parts of the tank can be impeded and not getting enough nutrients and CO2.
