it is unethical to use any private properties without permission. generally it is quite acceptable (unless specifically stated at the website) to either post a link or hotlink with a clear acknowledgement (e.g. "the above pictures from xxx.com").
technically it would be best if you could sought permission but then again it is not very practical and probably most website owners would not be readily contactable, or want to be bothered. the important thing is to never misrepresent what is not yours, as yours. that would be fraud and definitely criminal, and yes you can be sued.
