Hi, currently I have a big Driftwood from my 3 ft tank. Planning to saw it up into few smaller pieces for my smaller tanks.

Anyone has done this before? Would it have any effect on the Flora and Fauna?

    Please advise. Thanks

I used to saw up my large drift wood so that they can fit into my tank. No problems at all. However, since you are sawing them up, you might want to consider filing down the sharp edges as well.

Also, after sawing and filing, remember to clean the wood throughly before using them.

    Cheers,

Saw my driftwood too before and no effect on the tank flora and fauna. But good luck sawing, unless you have a machine to do the job, sweat you will. I suggest using those saw that is used to cut metal.

Good point! I tried that with a cheap hand saw from the hardware shop and it took me like forever to cut one small section. Almost gave up. Be careful not to cut yourself.

But metal saw has smaller "teeth" so will actually take a longer and more effort to do the job as compared to one that is for wood.

Ask the hardware shop person to advise on the type of saw bits so save on the effort. Go for those old shops. The uncles are more knowledgeable with these kinda of things.

Wow... I didn't know it's so tough to saw up a driftwood.

Was planning to use a normal handsaw, guess I'll have to find an electric saw to do the job.

    Thanks for all the advice.
