Hi guys... I am buying a 4x54W T5 HO set from Dymax. The supplier is unable to inform whether the reflector is a parabolic one. Anyone know?

Also, would the reflectors be changable if they are not parabolic?

And finally, how much less effective would normal (U) reflectors be as compared to the parabolic ones? Would it be ok to stick to the reflectors provided?

    Thanks...

Usually reflectors are all changable. But whether the parabolic ones will fit into the casing is another matter.

Hi Thomas, r u very sure its HO? Cos Dymax NO set is very common in our market. Do u have a pix of the set? From pix can tell what type of reflector they using or if a parabolic reflector can fit in.

A gd or bad reflector will still reflect lights. Its a matter of efficiency and imho its very subjective cos it will depend on ur tank's plants sensitive and requirement for lights. Its something like u spend $1, u wan to be sure that u get $1 worth of lumens and not only $0.80 of it.

    Cheers

Thomas wants to make sure the light gets to the bottom of his tank for some really fancy foreground growth.

I'll be curious to know about this light set oo. No one seems to have pictures?

JC, the ad at the shop says T5HO and it is a 54W tube... So, I think it definitely a HO tube...

Benny... *grr...* I just want to have some nice plant growth finally, hopefully...

It's not a cheap lightset for sure. I have seen it in Reborn the marine shop in Lavender street. Head up to the 2nd level where they sell the accessories you will see the Dymax T5 there. I can't remember it's T5 or not but i remember the price quite exp when i ask.

Is he refering to the T5HO eballest ? I know that the eballest should be HO in order for T5HO tube to work it's capable of.

Yes. Its the ballast. U can still fire up a 54W HO tube using a NO ballast. The problem of doing that is that the HO tube will not be fully utilised.

hmm.. The only HO T5 light set from Dymax is the starlight series.

Judging from the picture, there is not reflector inside, only a reflective back plate. Perhaps you can still mount the parabolic reflector inside.

Yes JC, that's the normal one Also known as the Dymax OB series. I almost bought it myself until the Auntie from C328 told me that it was problematic. Save me some money and hassle.

    Here's the top view.

    Yes, Thomas!
Be absolutely sure its a HO or a VHO set before making the purchase!
I learnt my lesson the hard way!
    I saw this 3ft T5 from Dymax OB lighting for only $59 @ C328
    Did not check properly!
    Bought it on impulse!
Happily brought it home, only to discover that its a NO!

Aiyoh!! Only the first batch was problematic.

Obviously it was resolved and Adec continue selling it. But because it was not a high out put model, it was not popular.

Hmm... Think I shall call on NA and talk to Mr Chan instead... Better do more research... Still have 2 weeks to do so...

C328 Auntie sold me the NO ones and after I asked about the HOs, then she showed me the 4x54W... I returned the NO ones and got a refund...
