    HI all !
my 2ft and 5 ft planted is already 4 yrs old and i guess its time to do some adding of base fert.

any advice on types, brands and ways of adding without actually "tearing up" the whole tank ?

    many tanks

To add on to Mervin's query, sorry ah Mervin... What brand of base fert/ soil can we add into existing tanks (with water) that will not turn the water into a chalky mess?

use jobe sticks, root monster, ...
or mix base fertilizer with some water and blend into a soft paste.
    freeze it.
insert the rock hard base fertilizer into your tank. you'll need to insert it quickly though.

try the root monsters or various brands of tabs, capsules fertilizers if your fertilizer has depleted.

The freezing method suggested by tawauboy works too, but you should consider the size of the frozen cube for effective dosing.

But if your tank is that old, why not do a overhaul?

There's the ADA range for this purpose, they have a injection like device (called Bottom Release) to inject stuff into the bottom of the tank. The stuff is Multi Bottom or Multi Bottom Long..

Then I guess you have to buy those tabs then. But it'll be hard work putting them all in and maintaining...

just speaking aloud...perhaps you divide the tank into 4 sections and work on it over a month.
