Freakin algae ... arghhhh

Im so fed-up wif me 3ft tank. cleaned once every 1week and yet, algae still clingging on me tank and plants.
is there any way to minimise or prevent this ?

Yes. Simple.

01. Reset you tank. Redo your base fertilizer.

02. Add more plants, keep the floor area 80% covered with fast growing stem plants.

03. Add more light. Use at least 4 X 55 W PL

04. Add/increase CO2 fertilization to 35 ppm.

05. Reduce bioload and feed less. But dose NO3.

06. Keep only yamato shrimps, ramshorn snails, otos, SAE, Bristlenose Plecos and cigar fish.

07. Trim and dispose of excess stem plants and change 20% water weekly.

100% effective. Good luck and have fun with your new algae free planted tank!!

You using CO2 test kit to test? They are known to be notoriously inaccurate if you ask most of the people here.

Better to test using the PH and KH calculation method.
And fill up the help form which Benny provided. Easier to get help from the more experienced guys and girls here.

And what kind of Seachem fertiliser? Fluorish only? Got Fluorish Nitrogen, Potassium, Phosphorous?

The problem is obvious, you're not dosing any fertilisers for your plants. Seachem flourish alone is too little, especially more when you only dose it once a week.

Consider getting into fertilisation products, or remove CO2 and do the tank the non-CO2 way. Instructions are in the Beginners Corner.

Well... since you mentioned that your tank is overrun by algae, yeap I guess so.

It'll be a time and money waster if you want to kill the algae off slowly.

If you want to continue with CO2 way, just make sure that your fertilisation routine is kept up by providing the necessary NPK...
Else if don't want to spend on extra fertilizer, then you go the non-CO2 way. The macro nutrients can probably provided by your fauna. And you continue with your Fluorish dosing...

Interesting. If you don't do kH/pH test, how do you know you have 30 ppm of CO2 in your water column?
