Just thinking aloud ah... Some of your conditions quite contradicting... require low light contradicts to non-green... Usually red-coloured plants require high lights... Not too fast grower contradicts relatively inexpensive... Usually fast growers sell cheaper... Also, if it won't grow big, how to have bushy effect?

Anyway, just silly me thinking aloud hor, no offense...

I would have suggested Blyxia japonica, they get bushy... But you want non-green and I think you just gave away some of them... What about the following then:

    - Rotala indica/ Rotala rotundifolia, they have red leaves... but they will only 'ball up' when in high light...
    - Alternanthera spp., if I didn't remember wrongly, they can be quite clumpy and red... Ask Valice for details, he has Alternanthera reineckii in his tank...
    - Cryptocoryne wendtii brown, it is medium sized and has reddish/brownish leaves, do well in low lighting and not expensive. Also not a fast grower...
    - Cryptocoryne becketti, or is it Cryptocoryne petchii, can't remember which has red leaves... It is slightly taller than the Cryptocoryne wendtii...

But the 2 crypts only get bushy if you get more of them and plant them close together...

    Can't think of others...
    Read me! http://justikanz.blogspot.com/

    I'm crypt collecting... Starting cheap, now have Cryptocoryne beckettii, C.beckettii var petchii, C.crispatula var.balansae, C.griffithii(Melted! ), C.nurii, C.parva, C.pygmaea(Melted! ), C.tonkinensis(Melted! ), C.walkeri, C.wendtii 'Brown', C.wendtii 'Green', C.wendtii 'Green Gecko', C.wendtii 'Tropica' and Cryptocoryne x willisii

Oh, juggling is hard work, man!...

    I USED to have it...
Anyway, unless you have a tall tank, don't think it is suitable for mid-ground. And also if you buy from LFS, they tend to be in emersed form, so must wait for it to loss those leaves and grow the immersed ones, which will be very long.

It is not a very fast grower for my case, I not sure of others, so mine got a very bad case of BBA and green spot. Also they can be very leggy since they are stemmed plants... They are mostly used for Dutch scapes...

    - wont grow big (sry meaning the leaves, like echindorus)
    - have bushy/clump effect
    - preperably non-green (preferably onli, the main thing is to cover an area so as not to see the soil)
    - require low lite (crypt requires low lite etc)
    - not too fast grower
    - relatively inexpensive (i din noe slow grower = not relatively inexpensive)

slow growing plants are usually more expensive. I can think of Anubias barteri (e.g. the coffeefolia variety which has nice light red-brown new foliage ), but the price range for a plant may be from $5-10. But it's very hardy, does well in low light and grows quite slowly.

Do a search in the AQ Gallery, and also on the online plant catalogues like www.tropica.com and www.dennerle.com to trry to find species suitable for your needs.

Another option I could think of is Echinodorus Ozelot.

I think Colourful Aquarium (beside NA Nature) may have, but you should call and check. I recall seeing some at Ecoculture too. Or you could ask your nearest LFS to order it for you based on the Oriental catalogue (ask them to show you).

Of course, you can look out or post a want-to-buy message in the Buy/Sell section.

Cryptocoryne Walkeri is not too bad too. I like the color (Red underside/Dark Green on top) but it's not as wavy and curvy as wendtii's.

THat's if you have low lying plants in front. Cos' it's not very tall plant.
