hey i'm quite interested in this fish after reading through this forum. how big a tank would be suitable for 2 fishes and some dither fish and what is the price range?

a pair in a 2ft moderately planted tank will do fine...providing lots of hiding places too...price range is quite relative to individual really depends

Its quite hard to find a good pair of tris locally these days....same goes for the other old time apistos too *sadz*

because of the small market in Singapore... 80 bucks for a pair? You thik the average hobbyist will be interested?

We are still a long way to go to be like the Hong Kongers or Taiwanese or Japanese...

I agree too, but it seems that there were quite a lot of reasonable farm bred ones available in the past but not now....only few lfs has stock of apistos, maybe like you said its due to the market and trend too

I have ever seen this beautiful fish going for as low as S$5 a piece a few years ago. Locally bred ones. Prices seem to hover around S$15 to S$20 before they disappear from the market.

I agree that good ones are hard to come by and prices are a few times higher than what the local hobbyist are used to paying.

As indicated, a 2 ft set up will be perfect for them. Dither fishes are good and make sure there are some hiding space for the 'couple'.

Other beginner apistos will include species like cacatuoides (not me!), agassizi, borellii....

Try talking to Mr. Thio of Biotope Aquarium at Bukit Merah. He is very friendly and helpful.
