snails??

guys, i have discovered tat some of the snails seen in picture is in my tank, a lot of them, do they do any harm to my plant??? if yes, how to remove them??? currently i remove them manually, is there any fish tat eat snails but doesn't eat shrimps (i got 10+ yamato, 10 tiger)???

A freshwater puffer will do the job, although I'm not sure whether you have puffers for sale over there in the USA willie.

And there's a catch, the puffer will probably bother your shrimps too. And any fish that you can find that eats snails (Rams for example) might bother shrimps as well.

eh, sorry, i am from malaysia la.... i am newbies for planted tank.... but will those sails eat my plants ah???? because it seems that a lot of my leaves got one hole at the center.....

They might, what kind of snails are they? Do they look like the snail in the picture you posted? If so, I don't think it's the snails, rather it's some sort of nutrient deficiency, that means inadequate fertilisation.

Ramshorn snails are completely harmless. And yes, you have a nutrient deficiency. More iron i think....

i currently using the ADA amazonia soil for my planted tank, isn't tat soil has more then enough nutrient for my plant???

more information on my tank, i have mainly Glosso,Carolina Fanwort and a type of moss (that will always get detached themself from the net i used to wrap them on my driftwood) in my 2.5 tank (about 30g), with 2 of 55w PL light, DIY co2, with the kh of 5 to 7, ph of 6.8.... temperature between 28 to 30 degree celcius.... the carpet grass isn't growing very well.... guys i got one more question, how long should we on the light over 24 hours period??? if i want my plant to grow faster can i on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week???? or i need to follow like 12 hours of light then 12 hours with the lights off????

Well, Bro Willie, I believe if you have your lights on for 24/7, you dun have faster plant growth!
You will be facing serious algae problems!
Many of us here have our lights on for 8-10hrs over a peroid of 24hrs!
And even that bring us plenty of algae issues!

Plants make food in the day and use that food to grow at night. So they need time to grow as well. Kinda like people. That and your temperature's a bit too high. try to lower it by to about 24 -26.

the temp will drop to 26 when the lights is off... but when it is on, it will goes back to about 28, is that ok?

It is normal for the temperature to go up when the lights are on as lights will give off heat, therefore increasing the temperature of the water...

And also the gradual and decline is gradual, so don't worry that the temperature change will affect your fauna...

They eat dying leaves, if the population gets too big they'll grow very slowly. From what i understand they can't bite healthy leaves so don't worry, i've got thousands of snails in my tank and my plants are fine. And i seriously mean thousands.

Nope. You need to provide liquid fertilisation too.

if you really don't like snails, get a horseface loach. this guy just hantam the snails and nothing else. doesn't dig the substrate if you don't alarm it. just ONE will do for one tank.
