Where did you get the aluminium square rod from? Thinking of DIYing my own T5 as well.

PVC air con trunking will do the trick.

Instead of cutting the rectangle hole, you can use BJB screw on type of T5 Waterproof endcap. It will be much easier to diy.

The aluminium square rod you can get from those selling aluminium hardware store.

Aluminium square rod - Free from my friend (cost should be $1X - $2X)
1 3ft diy kit with upgrade to waterproof holder - $105.(from De lightings)
    1 3ft T5 Reflector - $16
    1 T5 osram HO tube - $15
    2 pieces of waterproof holder - $13
Ballast for the single tube -old one from PL light
Cables and socket taken from spoilt PC and PC PSU
    Black metallic paint - $4
Total cost i spent $153 for this project.

    Very nice work!
I noticed you used dual-36W eBallast to support 2 x 39W tubes. Is that OK?

It is ok to use the dual 36W eballast, the watts of the eballast is 36W to 40W.So to fire up a 39W T5 tube should be no problem.
