Some thought this to be the Hyphessobrycon metae, but the Géry pix are not too clear, and Internet pix looked completely different. Also it seems the caudal base is scaled which should put this in Hemigrammus. So, any ideas?

Most of the specimens in the tank has a pale flank with silver belly, except one chap which is very much darker in coloration. The humeral spot is strongly distinct and horizontally ovoid.

choy, the only thing i can think of is it's either an unidentified tetra or they've been getting a new colour strain of the herbertaxelrodi?

considering the amount of tetra contaminant, I would go with the unidentified tetra

you mean that puffed out lower jaw? seems quite common among Hemigrammus. Can you tell me whether the caudal is considered scaled (the distinguishing trait between Hemigrammus and Hyphessobrycon).

    hi all,
well ive got a few pix of the real h. metae, only one problem it's coming to the end of it's life, but it still has the colours i mentioned, will have to do a bit of work on the pics before posting them but they should be worth the wait,i hope, a fact with these fish is they don't have a long tank life , about 2 yrs old and they start to look old and die not long after, ive asked my mate to get another shipment of them again , will post the pix later today.
    cheers, mick

From the Aqualog, I think it may be an astyanax leopoldi, or a strain of it.
