Hi Kenneth84,
Welcome to the fascinating world of Apisto keeping.
You can definitely keep more than 1 pair in your 6 foot tank.
By the way, what else will be in the 6 footer?
And what Apisto are you intending to keep?

At present, the tank is heavily planted and occupied by a large number of cardinals, emperor tetras, otos, SAE and a large number of malayan shrimps. I am still deciding what to keep, would you have any reccomendations?
If u want big one, try Inka, Cacas., Welhemi, Macmasteri, Vijieta, Aggazizzi and those broad bodies apisto.
If u want slender ones, try elizabethae, trifisciata, diplotenia, Candidi( Not apisto but still dwarf cichlids.), Bit.

Joopsg
If you intend to breed them in the 6 footer it's pretty difficult if you have other fishes like cardinals and emperor tetras, these fishes will be hovering on top.
They'll prey like eagles looking down on the ground for food. Once the fries become free swimming you'll experience your tetras chopping in a downwards motion in search for fries. Even with very densely planted tanks, this event will still happen but the percentage of survival are higher. Shrimps on the other hand are good food for apistogramma. larger Yamato are better algae eating machine if you want to keep apistogramma.
Cross breeding is difficult but possible so try not to keep 2 of the same family apistogramma together. You may want to try harem breeding meaning 1 male to a few females.
Cheers!

Apisto prices range from S$4 to S$400 per piece. What's your budget like?
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
No problems, so long as I can help.Originally Posted by Wackytpt

Hi Kenneth, what Benny said is quite correct.Originally Posted by kenneth84
Apisto's prices do vary considerably so its better to be prepared. : )
I suggest you look through the pictures available from the internet.
I would always recommend going to RVA for picture references.

However, please bear in mind that most often than not, what you get to purchase isn't going to be what is shown in the RVA photos..
Locally, at the moment, I believe Biotope carry some stocks.
Occasionally Cichlids Forever and C328 do as well.
Thanks Yorky. At the moment almost all of our tanks have apistos, kept in pairs.Originally Posted by yorky
