to have bba growing in your hairgrass
i should be glad it's not on the other plants, but it still gets on my nerves to see the bba nested in the hg where i can't possibly remove it

how do you guys deal with this?

    Yimin:
I understand perfectly how you feel when you can't 100% get rid your BBA from your HG areas. When i first started Planted tanks, i too had choosen HG for Foreground plants, they started to grow nicely to a lush effect but BBA decided to huant me down.

The first plant which BBA is seen is my HG. It Was Very very very extreamly irritating i just hate the sight of that black turf of hair it actually made my hair stands and goosepimples up.

I tried to do WC every day removing as much as possible but it was to no luck did i manage to even control BBA. Didn't fert for bout 2mths, plants were getting yellower each day. i tried even the black out method didn't work.

everytime i saw my tank with that BBA inside i just feel like removing every single thing in the tank.

what i've found out that tanks without BBA will never get them even if you introduce them in but for those tanks which are affected, they are really difficult to cope.

HG slow grower so i suppose BBA choose the easiest target to land on.

Never dare trying HG again even if i like it.
    Cheers!

bene, my hg is growing nicely, the new ones are clear of it
it's the dead hg which the bba is settling on, but the dead ones are joined at the roots to the new ones, so when i pull on it all of them come out
i plan to cut the dead ones off at the roots next, hope it works

what i did was to trim off the infected HG... it worked for me... the hg u trimmed will melt away but new leaves will grow shortly after...

Try Rosy Barb, but be warned, if you got any fine leaved plants, they will be eaten too. Plants like didip sure tekan by them. But the barbs do well to remove BBA.

yeah man, but the rest of the plants are growing very nicely
even the ludwigia peruensis is growing splendidly (hah, marcus, in your face~!)
    sigh

just did a major haircut for the HG
mowed down ALL the HG regardless of condition
wonder if that works ^ ^
if not i'll just switch to blyxa japonica, there's one clump growing right in the middle of the HG out of nowhere

Try increasing CO2. I up my CO2 to the limit and BBA was under control. It did not disappear but it did not spread. All I did was remove the BBA manually.

If I don't remember wrong, read that BBA uses HCO3- from water predominantly. High CO2 will benefit plant more than BBA.

It is worth a try. But look out for your fishes. It is a very fine balance.

actually when I was buying glosso from Teo, he recommended HG saying it is easier than glosso. however I was so confident then so I passed. Now that I'm done with glosso, am thinking about giving HG a try.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
