    Might be the neon tetra disease. You feed worms bought from the market?

    I have the same problem. the neon tetra will twist and flip when they swim/ After a major water change, thing return to normal. I think is excess nitrate inside the tank, as this problem occur when I have 200+ neon tetra in my 3 ft tank n I feed them excessively.

    Now drop to 140++.

    Weak neons could be due to excessive breeding... But I digressed...

    Anyway, Steve, are your 'S' shapes caused by the spinal curvature? I have a pencil suddenly developing spinal problem and the body becomes 'S' shaped seen from the side... Could be fish TB... Think I'd read fish TB affects spinal shapes or something like dat... Let me try to read it up tonight, if I find the time...

    Probably Neon Tetra disease (caused by a porozoan known as Pleistophora hyphessobryconis). TB or consumption usually manifest as concave stomach.

    It is contagious and I don't think there is any known cure. Someone correct me if i am wrong. Prevention is by isolation of infected fish and quick removal of any that died to keep it from being eaten by others.

    I remove my neon the moment they start to wriggle and convulse. so far, the situation has stabilised. no more casualty for the past 2 weeks. As for the removed one, scarifice to mother nature - my big tiolet bowl.

    seem that the disease spread very fast among the tetra. That's why I cannot wait for the infected one to die of natural death, must remove them immediately.

    In fact, before the infected ones exhibit that behaviour, they tend to swim alone in isolated corners. that's how i identify them.

    mmm, I think u miss the opporuntiy to solve the problem at the initial stage. Those neon tetra that are infected confirmed sure die within a week, no hope of recovery. Lesson learnt is must go in cold hearted and finished off the "posioned" tetra asap, before they spread like cancer cells and wipe out all your neon tetra population.

    The disease can jump from neon to cardinal tetra.

    i agree with removing the sick ones asap before they infect the other ones. These should exclude white spot, as it is easily curable. When a fish swimming upside down or "rocking" aimlessly, that shd be a clear signal to remove them and place them in the hospital.

    Btw, steven, i've seen your tetra and they are beautiful. It's unfortunate that this have to happen.
    There will be no more deaths after the holocaust. Of course, having 3 fishes in my 400L tank helps.

I study a book and they mention if the red color not clearly seen than you water condition not good must change water .. but I do not wait for it to alarm me lar ... change once in 2 week.
