plant growth

hi guys,

would like to ask a seemingly strange question:

1) do plants, or any plant, grow at the same rate (relatively) given the same environmental condition? for example, a stalk of emmersed crypt in pot A and a stalk in pot B subjected to the same conditions. Will the height of the 2 stalks be the 'same' after ard a year?

2) do plants grow at the same rate throughout their living span?

3) Anyone knows of any plant that is not sensitive to temperature i.e grows at about the same rate in a temperate/tropical climate

in case anyone is wondering why i am asking these, i am currently working on an idea to conceptualise a plant 'calender'

yes ur question is indeed strange if not weird ... no offences made but trying to make a calender for plant growth is very unnatural plants grow according to what they have, that is, naturally ... no calenders or watsoever

i am not trying to make plants grow in a certain way; but rather to try something new from observing the growth pattern of plants. the idea is actually to calibrate a calender that correponds to plant growth e.g the height of the plant indicates the date. no manipulation of life forms

its essentially an idea for a product whereby the passing of time could be captured in some tangible form. The use of a living object to indicate time is more dynamic than reading off the numbers on a calender. At the end of the year, you get a potted plant that u can put it at home etc.
i havent really thought abt how t can be done which is why i wld like 'milk' some info from u guys. if there truly is some constants in the way certian plants grow, a calibration cld possibly be drawn up to relect the days fairly accurately. Just an idea now.

Your idea is indeed interesting and innovative... But as what Joe had mentioned, I think that plants grow according to what is available to them. Not enough this or that and they slow their growth. With excellent conditions, they speed up. If you check the packets of seeds (for decorative plants, fruit trees etc) they sell in supermarkets, they indicate things like 1-2weeks for seed to germinate, 3-5 weeks for plantlet to grow etc... No definite number, but a range...
