New 4 Feet tank

Hi

Just started a 4 feet planted tank for my hall of residence. Tank was bought already, then the admin people contacted me to maintain it. So I decide I will go Planted Fish tank.

Tank has been setup recently, with fishes and shrimps already introduced. I know it might be too soon to intro fish and shrimps, but there was pressure from everyone that I needed to put in some moving creatures.

It seems that I am having some problems to attached pictures since mine are too big. refer to that website http://aquaobsession.blogspot.com/

Hi Christophe,

Your tank is looking good! Pity about the leaking tank. You should scout around for reputable tank makers if the future. I'm sure a quick search around the various forums will reveal if any people have had trouble with their workmanship.

Do keep us posted about it's development in the future!

The difficult part about this tank is that it can be viewed from 3, if not 4 sides. (yea all the sides). so people walk around it to watch the plants and fishes. so i am having a lot of trouble to find the rite landscape, given that i am newbie.

my hairgrass seems very slow to grow, and is picking up a lot of dust particle. any solution to that, should i remove it, get new carpet, or should i just try to clear the dust particles from the thin leaves.

also, i have put 2 red tiger lotus to the tank...one on the right and the other one in the middle. will post an updated picture in a few days...

This 4 feet tank is one of the 3 planted tank that i am maintaining.. the other two are in my room. One being setup a few weeks ago (24*18*12) and a new one (15*15*8 ) just setup yesterday, with Co2, lights and small filter, + hairgrass, xmasmoss as background wall, spike moss on the side, and some kind of dwarf vallisneria(but not dwarf vallisneria). I will post a picture of them by weekend.

Your feedback is much appreciated. I was getting desperate with the 4 feet tank landscape, thks for comments...

This aquascape looks good! But for a tank that's going to be viewed on all sides, why not go for the island concept?

I like what you did with the rocks and wood, but the plants you've chosen don't do justice imho. Too big leaved, makes the scape look wierd.

Those are monster growing plants!! if you want something to be viewd from all sides it's best to go with a island concept scape i think..

what plants would suit most the island concept.? I know one or two of these plants will grow huge...

any reference how to make a nice island with my current decor - wood and rocks?

the rocks and the DW will be placed right smack in the centre, heh, but well almost centre. Infact yours is in a relatively good position already.
Also as you will need some depth, this can be created by adding gravel to the centre to heighten the centre, or you can tie java ferns (any variant) to the DW. Then also at the sides, tie some nanas to cover any unwanted crevices. Then the foreground, you can use either full moss or HG, but i like the mossy idea thouigh.

I have done some changes to the tank... trying to get it island form...but after few hours of work, seems that it look the same. i oso change some driftwood placement as well...reposition my lotus as well...

now i will be getting some moss to attach to the wood... hmm any good moss that like warm water.

i am sorry i cannot take out my monster plant now, coz else the viewers will blame me i guess...this is not my personal tank, so i cannot leave it empty... but i will cut out the many leaves...

Will send an updated picture tmr morning...the tank is now left to filter a bit for the dust generated....

hmmm, i notice my plants are getting better.... especially the red lotus... I am quite happy... i believe now my lights are adequate enough... maybe i will be putting glosso at the bottom...

you are iusing an internal filter arent you ?
Hmmmm best to use a canister one though.
Still need to do some work though. Plants are a little too big

NO, the tank has a bio filter. two holes from the bottom of the tank act as inflow and outflow tube...going to a hidden tank in a cabinet...

Yeps, agree ..plants are too big..leaves are huge...yeps lot of work to be done in the future...

what i meant by "it's looking good" earlier was that... this is not my personal tank...i am maintaining that for my hall of residence... I was notified only after they purchased the tank, together with the rocks, driftwood, and some plants... so i am doing now with what i have... slowly i will try to introduce 'better looking' plants with smaller leaves....

at least i am not getting an algae problem..yet... and the plants are not dying...

I am not spending my own money on that...that is why i need to go slow.. i had to put fish such that the admin people like it and willing to give me some fund to maintain the tank...etc etc
