6500k or 10000k tubes?

i have used two types of PL lighting before ... personally i find the 6500K more appropriate for the planted tank as it simulates the natural sunlight which is more yellowish compared to the 10000K one.

Although 10000K gives a brighter outlook due to the blue spectrum which seems more whiter to the planted enthusiasts, but have to take note that this kind of lighting is very prone to algae, of which i was a victim before

actually according to Amano's aquajournal best temp is 8500k

by the way, it is pretty hard to get 8500K locally, right?

but i wouldnt want to risk it coz it is very near to 10000K, and i have used it before ... trust me, although it look real nice on your tank, it is really scary when the algae gets out of control

moreover, 10000K is more for marine tank, so i guess have to stick to the rules

Just wanna join the fray....i'm using 2x36W 10000K PL tubes for a 10G tank. So far, i've not had algae probs...tho' i did plant fast growers in the initial stage. Yes, it does promote algae growth, but it's still under control for me...

I uee the common "BOYU" 2 feet Lighting for my 15 Gallons.
The bulb indicates 15W. Is this ok for my planted tank or should I go for more specialise lighting ??? [:0]

for low light plants like anubis maybe still can lah ... but definitely not enough for most plants

I like to achieve the bright effect on the landscape just like what we see on
the centre piece of LFS.

What can I do ? Just change the bulb ? Can I re-use the Housing, hood etc.
Can it support higher watt ?

What colour is the BOYU tube? Noraml white should be ok to use. But problem is that 15W is way too little for your planted tank. I'm guessing that the tank you have is 2ft, you'll prolly need abt 72W to get nice healthy plants growing (with other factors achieve e.g. co2, fert etc).

I guess I cannot buy a 72W and fit into the 15W original Hood/sockets.
Wow that is 5 times the electrical cost....

ha ha ha..... you're right about the 5 times more but if you use your air con less for 20 minutes you can cover the 72W of lighting for 8 hours.

The tubes available are:

15W - 1.5ft
18/20W - 2ft
25W - 2.5ft
30W - 3ft
36/40W - 4ft FL or 18" PL
55W - 18" PL

So prolly you can consider 2X36 PL tubes for your 2ft tank.

brudders ... how about those reddish one ? bought a 18w fl tube that says it's meant for planted tank on its cover. so it's blue or red spectrum that stimulate plant growth ??
