For the start, I suggest the liquid fert because the solid fert requires you to have good knowledge of the fert amount required by the plants.

Cheap fert includes LGA + LGA Micro. Slightly more expensive fert are TMG, Seachem series products. Probably you can supplement a bit more on the the solid fert KNO3 and PO4.

All ferts in the market are essentially the same. They provide the same elements required by plants.

My take is, go for what works. If Dennerle works for me, I don't mind buying their entire range. If Seachem works for me, same thing.

There's no such thing as a all-in-one fert imho. But here's my advice: Don't try dry powders, but go for well-known commercial ferts like Dennerle, Ferka or ADA. Expensive, yes, but they are easy to dose and a no-brainer. People have had good results with all three brands.

Actually if you don't mind since dry fertiliser is cheaper you can get them and try it out yourself. Basically you need KNO3 and KH2PO4.

1kg of KNO3 cost less than $8. KH2PO4 250gram is around $4. Both can be found at NA and will cover the macro.

For micro, usually most people use those ready made liquid fert. Like TMG, Seachem Flourish or EasyLife Pro.

It's hard work trying to explain you know... Plus it gives the LFSes more business.

However rtcc86, if you want to go cheap (and I mean really cheap), you can try powders. Read up on the link in my signature and the Estimative Index listed on the Useful links sticky. Read up more in the threads listed below:

Now, all plants requires the same type of nutrients. Asking a newbie to invest in alot of money on nutrients (most of them don't include N nor P which is also another issue in itself) will not buy them success if the CO2 is not addressed (EI basically does away the nutrient issues and directs the focus all on CO2. Most newbies seems to go cheap on the CO2 anyway from the look of things.). In short, they are likely not going to rip much success and having spend so much on nutrients will likely put them off and worst give up all together. Anyway, EI uses commercial traces as well which isn't cheap.

I can't comment, because I've never used those brands. Perhaps someone else will comment.
