    Couple of questions...

How much wattage do i need for a 3ft tank?

Since T5 are much brighter, will cause a rise in water temperature? say a 4x39W T5 compared to a 4x36W PL?

    Regards
    Gene

T5 is generally generate less heat than PL.

Try to aim for 1.5wpg with gd reflector and you should be able to keep most plants happy.

try to have some space between the lights and water surface. this allows heated to flow better.
you can add fans too; simple and effective solution.

Keep your temp below 28 degrees and the plants should be ok. If you've got an aircon in the room then the temp is usually about 2 degrees warmer than the thermostat. And T5's barely generate heat at all so I wouldn't worry.

3ft tank dimension is 90cmX45cmx45cm. Will not be under aircon environment. Currently running a fan to keep the temp down with my 4X36W PL

If i were to get the 4x39W T5. Would that be an overkill. Running 4x39W T5 will get me slightly over 3wpg. My 4x36W PL is currently giving me 2.8wpg. Any recommendation for a T5 light set?

Well, you could use 4x39w T5 but you could do a dawn to high noon to dusk setup. Use 2 timer to separate the timing.
