Just rescaped this tank in a CNY mood. Can only think of Swordtails as auspicious enough. But have an Oto and some Yamatos inside as well. It's nice to take a break from schooling fishes.
    4 days since setup.

Gong Xi Fa Cai to you too!

I already reduced (2x 55w) the lights for this setup from the last one (4x 36w). Think they should not be that red soon...

Very 'ang ang' ah... Maybe some spots of green among the red red tenellus might be nicer?

    My 2 cents lah...

    Ok, no crypts... Dangerous ah...

What about Lobelia cardinalis? Or Stargrass, Heteranthera zosterifolia?

Just updated the pictures. Somehow my Swords prefer to stay near the bottom of my tank.

Thomas, don't think I want to add anymore stem plants. Had enough of the trimming I did with Stargrass 3 yrs back...

    Nice tank.

But if you don't mind... The female in the middle of the first photo, and the male in the left of the third photo appear to be suffering from early stage of dropsy or consumption. You may want to isolate them.

How do you tell? I really think it's the poor picture quality. These are one heck of a lively fish.

Lobelia cardinalis grows slow and has nice green leaves... You might want to consider...

Yes, I know. But I just can't see how Lobelia would fit in this current aquascape. I'm trying to create something zen, even though the E.tenellus won't look so zen once they start spreading...
And the fishes are so lively! Should have got myself some red Dwarf Gouramis instead... Now the tank looks like a party going on everyday, instead of serene like I planned...

Clasped caudal for live-bearers is usually not a good sign. Sometimes it is due to water-quality, but all your other swords looks very healthy and happy, so it can't be poor water-quality. You may find them swaying side to side too.

You may want to add a couple of taller plants so that the swords will start to swim higher. And a pre-filter or net over the filter inlet will prevent any fries from being sucked in too.

These fishes were perfect for my New Year setup - tail, colour, size etc. But their movements are Especially the juveniles - more action than Jackie Chan...
And yes, the background will be black. But only after I move house. Don't want to scape this tank further. Just waiting for the plants to fill in, which is going to take a couple of weeks or so.
