my 2213 is making some rumbling and rattling sound intermittenly....and when dat happens, lotsa little air bubbles gush out of the outlet....suspected tat there is air in the filter but sometimes its ok, sometimes its not....hw to get the filter running fine silently...? will the motor be defective if its air tat is actually running in the canister instead of water.....

If you're using a CO2 diffusor placed near the inlet that could be the problem; CO2 acculmulating inside your filter causing airlock.

    Another possiblity is leakage.

make sure that when you prime it or close it that the top cover is snugly closed... no space between the top and container... sometimes its possible to close it with a space inbetween..

rock the canister a few times to allow trapped air pocket to escape. try a couple of time until the canister operate "silently".
check again a few day later.
how long have you been using the canister? it may be time to replace the seal between the power head and filter media container.

Tilting it to the side while it runs and switching the power on and off a couple of times do help as well...
