Aren't there 2 types of common Vals in the LFS? I always thought the V.spiralis is the 'Corkscrew Val' which doesn't grow as tall as the other common Val.
    I made a mistake here?
Haha... The pics in my blog too small... The pics in AQ should show the plants. But since you had searched the net, then there's no need to lah.

The cockscrew will still grow pretty tall, maybe reaching 40cm... And if you bought the corkscrew version of the V.americana... That'll grow even taller...

By the way, last time, I noticed that my discus were more tame than angels but they are cichlids, afterall... But with 2, it is always better than a shoal of angels. Btw, it is not a good idea to introduce only 2 discus into a tank... The weaker one might be bullied to death...

    HOW tall?
    2feet?
This tank only 40cm tall..... yikes.
C.helferi doesn't grow as tall as the V.spiralis?
I liked the vals since they kind of grow 'straight' up in contrast with the Blyxas which are rossette. C.helferi which I see in the pic seem to also have that similar rossette shape, No?

Ben at Tiong Bahru? When did you last go to Ben's?
When I was there 6weeks ago, the tank with plants was pathetic with just very common stem plants and some Nanas on blocky dw.

I usually just go to Colourful or Yishun to get the plants since its just 15mins bus/train ride. :P

Ok... I might scrap the idea of having these cichilds if I really want to see my shrimps in the day.

The problem is I drool every time I see a discus with bars swimming in a planted tank.

C.helferi's leaves grow from the crown. Blyxa japonica's leaves grow from the stem, with the intervals being very small. As such, the leaves of the blyxa look rossetted. C.helferi's leaves can look pretty straight growing...

Properly fed and with ample hiding space, the shrimps can be kept with discus...

    Updates: 2 months later...

I got so carried away with the H.M after introducing more into this tank that I decided to remove some of the Blyxa which were infested with BBA.

The E.tennellus foreground was also replaced with E.triandra.

    Before:

This is how the tank looks like now.
I still prefer the Blyxa +E.tennellus setup I had initially but I can't seem to get rid of the BBA on the Bogwood. It will remain this way until my holidays in May.

    Thanks for the encouragement

This tank is not ready for 'contest'. I wish it is .
It still got a lot of hair algae which you can't see from the pic.

I still got to wait for the Bacopa to grow in and get bushier.
See how badly my Rotalas are trimmed too?

P.S. Tank is also too small & short for these angels for a start.

Alamak - such a beautiful tank. Should share with the rest of the world. We hope to see your submission.

Try to take as much pics and choose the one where the angels are swimming in a nice pack in an aesthetic position. Get family member to help "shoo" them in the right direction.

    Good luck!

    Thanks, Koah Fong.

I have 2 more weeks to let this tank shape up, right?
Okay, I'll submit one before due date (20th April? ).

Is this picture quality okay for submission? This is the 'best' I can do with this digicam I think.
