    not tried it.
but you don't have to refill the bubble counter very often, right?
you can use a syringe to 'inject' water through the inlet side.
however, if you are using a ceramic diffuser, you'll be having a hard time.

    Interesting idea.

I do get evaporation from my bubble counter too and it's a hassle to take it out to refill with water.

The question is...how to prevent the oil from getting into the tank? Two check valves lined in reverse to each other?

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Please don't try reversing the dennerle check valve, burst my tube that way, luckily not those hard tubes...

After awhile i don't even bother topping up the bubble counter unless i'm changing the bps or what.
    Cheers!

These days I don't use a bubble counter anymore, I rely more on estimation of the "spray" coming out from my diffusor. Anyway, my diffusor has a sort of reservoir where I can see my bubbles.

Ya but thats not = to the number of bubbles from the bubble counter. Maybe can do a conversion like 3 bubbles = 1 bubble at the diffuser.
    Cheers!

anyway..if water gets in it wont mix mah..cos its oil..

so is it because water evaporates that it disappears from the bubble counter or because it gets pushed out??

if its evaporation then i think the mineral oil should work...

I find water in my check valve leh... So for me, it is the water from the bubble counter back flowing thus causing the water level to drop...

Oops... Sorry... Will correct the above statement...

And so I was saying, it would be useless to use oil as the oil would backflow also...

oh...you mean you only have one check valve on the line then.... i was meaning a set up more like this...

Canister------check valve----- bubble counter with mineral oil---- check valve-----diffuser.
Both check valves point in the direction towards the diffuser.----->

in this case...mineral oil wont be able to go backwards when there is co2 coming out.... when co2 is low.. the front check valve precents the pressure from the water from acting back on the mineral oil... the second check valve is an added measure in taht case...

No, my setup same as what you mentioned...

Canister------check valve 1----- bubble counter---- check valve 2-----reactor

Water back flow from reactor to valve 2 and from bubble counter to valve 1...

so when you switch the co2 back on... water should go back to normal....since it is trapped between the 2 check valves... yes?

hmm...in that case..then i'm going to try it..

since the oil wont be able to go anywhere and is not subject to evaporation as quickly as water..
